Traveling to a Country (small group):
The next step is to break up into smaller groups of students who will travel to a new country together. Our example country is Pakistan (Figure 2). Calculate how many miles/kilometers it is to the new country (this is important in order to keep a log of how many miles/kilometers traveled) from their hometown (Figure 1c). While traveling through Pakistan as a small group, use a variety of resources to ensure students understand the differences of living in another country.
Math – teach statistics, calculating percents, calculating area, population, miles traveled, money, adding, subtracting, and comparing and contrasting large numbers and foreign exchange.
Reading – read the following books together: Iqbal by Francesco D’Adamo;
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson; Listen to the Wind: The Story of Dr. Greg and Three Cups of Teaby Greg Mortenson & Susan L. Roth
Social Studies – research the art, music, food, culture, history, geography, politics of Pakistan. Find a recipe and a game that represents the country.
Ecosystem– learn about the ecosystem of Pakistan (the climate, the animals and plants).
